About Dr. Ronald Olum

Dr. Ronald Olum is a Ugandan public health physician, infectious disease epidemiologist, and global health leader. He trained in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB, equivalent to MD) at Makerere University and earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) with Distinction from Imperial College London. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Dr. Olum has completed advanced research training through the Fogarty Launching Future Leaders in Global Health Research (LAUNCH) Program at Washington University in St Louis and the HIV Implementation Science Fellowship at the Mid-Atlantic CFAR Consortium (MACC+) Implementation Science Hub—both supported by the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

His work focuses on infectious diseases, particularly HIV, tuberculosis, fungal infections, and emerging or re-emerging pathogens, using epidemiology and implementation science to strengthen prevention and care in low-resource settings. His current research has centered on HIV prevention and care for adolescent girls and young women in post-conflict Northern Uganda. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and serves on advisory and editorial boards for the World Health Organization, The Lancet Global Health, UNESCO, and leading public health journals.
